Izabella Alpert, PMHNP-BC
From a young age, I was drawn to understanding people — their struggles, their resilience, and the unspoken experiences they carried. When I emigrated from Moldova to the U.S., I had to navigate a new culture, language, and way of life. That experience taught me firsthand how overwhelming change can be and how important it is to have support along the way.
My journey into mental health care took a unique path, but it has always been driven by a commitment to fostering growth and self-discovery. Before nursing, I taught English as a Second Language in underserved Philadelphia schools, where I saw how confidence and self-advocacy could transform a child’s ability to navigate the world. After becoming a mom, I felt drawn to healthcare and pursued nursing, starting my career in the operating room. But over time, I realized that mental health was where I could make the biggest impact. The pandemic only reinforced that decision, as it exposed just how deeply mental health care was needed in our unpredictable times.
As a psychiatric nurse, I saw the power of a strong therapeutic alliance and how a meaningful connection could transform the healing process. Now, as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I take an integrative, evidence-based approach, blending lifestyle changes, behavioral strategies, and medication management to help clients gain confidence, advocate for themselves, and build the lives they want. I am also deeply committed to exploring innovative, science-backed treatments, including psychedelic medicine such as ketamine therapy, to expand the possibilities for healing and well-being.
Outside of work, I stay grounded by going on adventures with my now-teenager, as well as through practicing mindfulness, spending time in nature, and pursuing creative projects. I also have a passion for foraging— there’s something incredibly rewarding about discovering hidden gifts in the world around us, much like the work I do in mental health.
At the core of my practice is the belief that we have the ability to heal and grow. I strive to create a space where clients feels seen, understood, and empowered to move forward with confidence and clarity.
